It seems like it was only yesterday when Margaret, Karina, Cade, and I traveled to Saginaw to house-hunt. That was November 2016. Now, November 2017 is upon us. What an exciting month it will be at St. John’s!

On Sunday, November 5 we will celebrate the Feast of All Saints. The 10:30am service will include prayers for those from the St. John’s family who died this past year. We will also bless the Columbarium in the newly-named Calvary Chapel, as well as bless an urn to be used during funeral liturgies.

On November 12 at 9:15am in the Guild Room, we will hold a forum on the finances of St. John’s. This will replace the Rector’s Forum for this day.

On Sunday, November 19 at 4pm, St. John’s will host an Interfaith Service of Thanksgiving. I’ve been planning this with representatives from First United Methodist Church, The Islamic Center of Saginaw, the Tri-City Hindu Temple, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and others. We hope more faith groups will be able to join.

December 3 is the First Sunday of Advent. On that day from 8:45am to 10am in the Community Room, we will hold an all-PARISH BREAKFAST! Eggs and sausage will be prepared. Please feel free to bring homemade breakfast baked goods to share!

While we’re looking ahead, December 24th falls on a Sunday this year. That means the Church will commemorate both the Fourth Sunday of Advent and Christmas Eve on the same day. Our service schedule will be as follows:

December 24th

  • 8am – Advent IV Holy Eucharist – NO SUNDAY SCHOOL and NO 10:30am SERVICE
  • 4pm – Family Oriented Christmas Eve Service
  • 11pm – Solemn High Christmas Eve Mass (incense & candles)

December 25th

  • 10:30am – Christmas Day Mass

As I type this, I am already getting excited about celebrating these special moments with you. I am privileged and thankful to God to be your Rector.

In Christ,
Curt+
