Outreach

The community of St. John's is more than what happens on Sunday mornings and our parish has been a part of this community for over 150 years! We understand that to continue to grow in the understanding of what God means in the world we must be an active part of it! Here are some of the ways the members of St. John's seek to bind ourselves with the community around us.

The Lunch Bag Program

Sharon Kaylor serving the Lunch Bag ProgramSt. John's provides a bag lunch to those in our community most in need Mon-Thurs from 9:00am-12:00pm.  The numbers of bag lunches continues to grow as the need of assistance in our community grows.  This program would not be possible without the continued prayerful support, commitment, and generosity of our parishioners.

Christmas Outreach Baskets

Christmas Outreach BasketsThe St. John's Christmas tradition of preparing, packing and delivering gift boxes to the residents of Rosein Towers has become a way of meeting and greeting our neighbors. One of the true gifts of giving our time, talent and treasure is the opportunity to meet face to face. The people who participate in the lunch bag program feel the same way. For this project we collect household items such as canned goods, paper towels, and shampoo to support those who may need a little extra help during the holiday season. Outreach is important and vital but that doesn't mean it has to be serious and glum. Although the holiday season tends to be difficult for many for different reasons, one of the best ways to cope is to get out there and concentrate on others and let others encourage you! Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity 2009Members of St. John's are called upon year after year to assist Habitat for Humanity projects in our area. From painting to preparing lunches this outreach project continues to inspire and connect our gifts with the communities need.

The C.A.N. Council

C.A.N MittensSt. John's also lends support to local advocacy groups such as the Children's Abuse and Neglect Council. All year, members knit or crochet hats, mittens, and scarves for the the CAN Council to distribute to their charges in the winter months.
